לַעַזm. (preced.) 1) foreign tongue, esp. Greek. Meg.18a בל׳ יוני the laʾaz (of Mish. II, 1) means Greek. Ib. שכתובה בל׳ יוני Ms. M. (ed. יונית) written in Greek (translation). R. to I, 22, v. זֶמֶר I; a. fr. 2) evil talk, disrepute.הוציא ל׳ על to spread evil talk against, to cast suspicion, discredit. Kidd.81a שלא תהא מוציא ל׳ על בניה that you may not (by punishing her for private meeting with a man, v. יִחוּד) cast suspicion on the legitimacy of her children.
